On the road towards liberty. (21/29 km) hiking trail.

Survivors and rescuers, family and school children. Since 2019, dozens walk the road the forced laborers took in 1945 between Rees (Germany) and Megchelen.To remember in silence but also to listen to each other ‘s long hidden stories.

This warm blanket of connectedness between the past and today’s life, between Germany and the Netherlands, soothes the pain of the horrors of that time.

The route is signposted and has a 21 km length. Starting and ending point is in Megchelen at the Oranjeplein.  The route also is part of the app: Abelleisure.nl called: “een deken van warmte”
