Civilian Dutch victims

The personal suffering of the citizens from the former municipalities Gendringen and Wisch, mainly in March 1945 can hardly be described. The liberators, but also the enemy, are memorized on May 4. Quite a number of fallen citizens are remembered too. Fathers, mothers, children, grandparents, uncles aunts, cousins, friends, neighbours, villagers they all were in danger during the last days of the war and sadly, many became victim. Death came, sometimes literally, from the air, sparing no one, causing a lot of grief.

Civilian victims from Gendringen and Wisch can be divided in several categories. As there are, the Jewish victims, who where deported and murdered in the extermination camps, but also the forced laborers that got in labour camps in different places all over Germany. Also victims that worked for the Organization Todt and have died of hardship.
