German victims

Within our group, we had long discussions about mentioning and remembering German victims as well on this monument.

We consulted Jewish organisations (IKN for instance) and it turned out, that 77 years after the war, this was deemed acceptable and desirable. The major’s initial objections to mention those names on the monument have been taken away with our chosen construction. Of course our lists have been checked for SS members by military experts, so there will only be ordinary soldiers mentioned.

In the last days of the war, 167 German soldiers lost their life in this region. Initially they had a field grave at the very spot they died. Afterwards most of them have been buried on the German cemetery in Ysselsteyn (Limburg)
